The crash took place around 7:15 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the intersection of Benham Street and Lakeview Avenue in Hamden, said Hamden Police Capt. Ronald Smith.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the school bus was stopped, waiting to turn left onto Lakeview Avenue. A second vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old Hamden resident, was traveling eastbound on Benham Street. The driver of the second vehicle “lost control of his vehicle on the wet roadway," Smith said.
The driver’s side of the vehicle struck the front of the school bus, he added.
The driver of the car sustained serious injuries to his leg and hip. He was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital by American Medical Response.
The school bus was carrying four teenaged passengers that attend New Haven Academy.
Two of the teens were transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital by ambulance. They sustained head and neck injuries.
The bus driver was also transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital with “aches and pains.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Kevin Hall of the Hamden Police Department Traffic Division at (203) 230-4036.
